The Volunteer JournalCommunity service, on the record

About The Volunteer Journal

The Volunteer Journal is an independent editorial desk covering volunteering and community service. We write for people who want to serve but are unsure where to start, what a cause actually needs, or how to keep showing up once the first burst of enthusiasm fades.

Our content model is the opportunity card: a single repeatable format that names the cause area, the typical time commitment, the skills that help, the setting, the impact, and what onboarding looks like. Because every entry uses the same six fields, you can compare a tutoring role and a park-restoration role on the same terms instead of guessing from a glossy pitch.

We describe opportunity types generically and do not name specific organizations, quote named individuals, or promise placement. Where we reference published research on the wellbeing effects of helping, we frame it as general education. Nothing here is medical, financial, or legal advice.
